Integration sessions with Anthony Olsen

I am a Melbourne based Psychotherapist and Holotropic Breathwork practitioner. I work from a Gestalt informed, Process Oriented, transpersonal lense which also draws it's roots from Traditional Chinese Medicine. At it's base is an awareness based approach that utilises the breath and the body to facilitate healing and transformation.

I have been working in the fields of healing and personal development since the late 1990's and currently offer one on one counselling & psychotherapy, one on one breathwork sessions, Men's Groups and more.

Over the last decade, psychedelics have seen renewed attention, reflecting what psychonauts have long understood: these experiences have a profound potential to reshape our lives. But navigating this territory requires careful attention to three crucial phases: preparation, the session itself, and integration. Each phase is vital to ensuring the experience supports growth rather than destabilization.

In preparation, I focus on clearly defining my intention, setting practical guidelines, and aligning my mindset. This groundwork helps me stay oriented during the often-confusing journey of a psychedelic session.

Although the session itself feels central, I've learned the true value lies in integration—the process of embodying the insights and wisdom uncovered. Integration can involve supportive conversations, daily practices like meditation or journaling, physical therapies, and allowing sufficient time and space for the experience to settle.

Psychotherapy, including breathwork, provides powerful relational and experiential tools to aid this integration. Sharing my story in a non-judgmental space allows deeper emotional truths and themes to surface. Working somatically with techniques like guided imagery and breath helps complete unresolved experiences.

I've found Holotropic Breathwork particularly valuable for integrating challenging or incomplete psychedelic sessions, transforming difficult encounters into profound healing opportunities. Even tough experiences—often labeled "bad trips"—can be deeply therapeutic if approached openly and compassionately. Each challenging session invites me to face shadow aspects of myself, ultimately moving me toward greater wholeness and self-awareness.
